SRM University-AP Researchers Publish Book Chapter on AI-Driven Digital Twins for Sustainable Water Management

Paper Published Anwar Faizaan RezaMr Anwar Faizaan Reza  from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SRM University-AP, Amaravati have contributed to a significant international publication titled Handbook of Digitalization and Big Data in the Water Sector, published by Taylor & Francis Group under the Routledge imprint.

The book chapter, titled “Digital Twins as a Transformative Framework for Intelligent Water and Wastewater Management” (Chapter 9, pages 162–175), appears in Volume 2: Emerging Opportunities and Challenges in Net Zero Emissions. The publication explores the integration of Digital Twins, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Big Data technologies in transforming conventional water and wastewater management systems into intelligent, efficient, and sustainable infrastructures.

The chapter has been authored by Randeep Singh, Anwar Faizaan Reza, Karthik Alakanti, Meghana Sancheti, Prof. Young-Ho Ahn of Yeungnam University, and Dr Saikat Sinha Ray. Among the contributors, Mr Anwar Faizaan Reza from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering is the first author, while Dr Saikat Sinha Ray serves as the corresponding author representing SRM University-AP.

The research highlights how Digital Twin technology can create dynamic virtual replicas of physical water infrastructure systems, enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, optimized resource planning, and intelligent operational control. The study further demonstrates the potential of AI- and IoT-enabled digital ecosystems in addressing challenges such as water scarcity, urban expansion, climate change, and sustainability goals aligned with net-zero emissions.

This publication serves as a valuable resource for water engineers, environmental researchers, policymakers, sustainability practitioners, technology innovators, and graduate students working in civil engineering, environmental science, and smart-city planning.

The book is currently available through early online access, with the hardback edition scheduled for release in late May 2026. The publication can be accessed through the DOI: DOI Link.
