Abstract

This work presents the fabrication and characterization of a metal-contact-free copper molybdenum sulfide (Cu2MoS4, CMS) nanosheets-based photodetector, optimized for efficient UV-visible (UV-Vis) detection. The photodetector structure is patterned over a conductive indium tin oxide (ITO) sheet, incorporating a novel design approach that eliminates the need for metal contact pads. A low-cost, one-pot solvothermal method was employed to synthesize high-crystalline CMS nanosheets. The fabricated photodetector, with a small channel spacing of ∼40 μm, demonstrated a peak responsivity of 1.36 A/W and an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of ∼440% over the wavelength range of 385-624 nm. The speed characteristics of the device were further evaluated under white-light illumination with a power density of 0.83 mW/cm2. The photodetector exhibited a reasonably fast transient response, with rise and fall times of 1.23 and 1.66 s, respectively, confirming its potential as a low-cost and efficient solution for white-light photodetection.
