Abstract

This paper introduces a mathematical technique for creating dynamic artworks using Rubik’s cubes. By strategically arranging two images on Rubik’s cubes in segmented patterns, the resulting artwork presents a captivating illusion of morphing two images when observed from different viewpoints. As viewers move around the artwork, the images seem to shift and transform, creating an engaging visual experience. The core of this approach lies in an algorithmic process that generates mosaics representing two images on Rubik’s cubes, which are then seamlessly combined to form a unified artwork. The final result is presented in a simulated 3D environment, enhancing its immersive quality. The 3D GUI environment not only provides users with a set of controls to rotate and zoom the structure but also provides an FPS log to show how many frames are being generated per second and how much the programming is lagging. The paper provides a comprehensive description of the strategy employed to achieve this artistic effect, detailing the step-by-step process from image segmentation to mosaic generation and merging along with the constraints and required mathematical preliminaries. Additionally, the paper undertakes the time complexity analysis of the algorithm, which is in linear order, which guarantees the efficiency and computational requirements.
