As part of the orientation programme for students of the Summer Internship Fellowship (SIF), a student interaction session was organised to familiarise the incoming students with SRM AP‘s various schools, institutes, and administrative directorates. The session brought together senior academic and administrative leadership of the university, giving students a comprehensive introduction to the institution’s academic ecosystem, research focus areas, and student-support structures, followed by an open interaction with the students.
The session was graced by Prof. C V Tomy, Dean, School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS); Prof. Vishnupad, Dean, Easwari School of Liberal Arts (ESLA); Prof. Ashay Kadam, Dean, Paari School of Business (PSB); Deans and Directors of Academic and Non-Academic directorates and departments of the university.
Major General Gurdeep Singh Narang, Director, Student Discipline and Hostels, spoke to the students on the role of his directorate in student welfare, discipline, and hostel administration, and the support systems in place for students during their stay on campus. Prof. C V Tomy, Dean, School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS), opened the session with a welcome address, giving students a broad overview of the university and its constituent schools and departments, and formally introduced the other deans and directors present on the dais.
This was followed by individual introductions from the remaining deans and directors. Prof. Saraju P Mohanty, Dean, AiTI, spoke on the implications of Artificial Intelligence, emerging trends, and the future outlook of the field, and introduced the institute’s academic and research offerings. Prof. Somnath Bhattacharyya, Dean, QuTI, addressed the students on quantum technologies and their significance, and gave an overview of the institute’s work. Prof. Vishnupad, Dean, ESLA, introduced the school, covering its focus areas and offerings, and Prof. Ashay Kadam, Dean, PSB, did the same for his school. Mr. Lakshmi Narasimhan, Director, IR&HS, and Prof. Y Siva Sankar, Director, Admissions, introduced their respective directorates and their role in the student journey. Ms. Revathi Balakrishnan, Director, Student Affairs, introduced the directorate and its role in supporting student life and campus activities, and Dr M S Vivekanandan, Director, CR&CS, introduced the directorate and its areas of work, including corporate relations and career services for students.
Following the formal introductions, an open interaction was held during which students engaged directly with the deans and directors, asking questions and seeking clarification on academics, research opportunities, campus life, and administrative processes. Students received a comprehensive orientation to SRM AP‘s academic and administrative structure in a single session, with dedicated presentations from schools and directorates. Direct access to senior leadership enabled open, informal dialogue and addressed student queries in real time, while also reinforcing students’ understanding of the support systems available to them, spanning discipline, hostels, admissions, student affairs, and career services.
The student interaction session served as a valuable orientation for the Summer Internship Fellowship cohort, offering a holistic introduction to SRM AP‘s academic ecosystem and creating a direct platform for engagement between students and institutional leadership.
