On 28th July 2026, around 200 students along with faculty coordinators from Ramachandra College of Engineering visited SRM University-AP to explore the university’s Quantum Research Facility. The visit was organised to provide students with exposure to advanced quantum computing infrastructure and to build awareness of the field among a wider student community.

Dr Varsha Sambhaje, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, led the sessions and introduced the students to the fundamentals of quantum computing. She explained what quantum computing is, how it functions, and how it differs from conventional computing systems, helping the students build a foundational understanding of the subject before proceeding to the facility tour.

Following the introductory session, students were taken through the Quantum Research Facility, where they were given a closer look at the infrastructure and were briefed on the research being undertaken at the centre. Lectures accompanying the tour helped contextualise the practical applications and significance of the technology, allowing students to connect theoretical concepts with the actual systems in use.

Prof. Somnath Bhattacharyya, Dean, Quantum Technology Institute (QuTI), also joined the sessions partway through the visit, interacting with the students and adding further perspective on the university’s ongoing work in the field of quantum technologies.

The visit provided the students of Ramachandra College of Engineering with valuable exposure to cutting-edge quantum research infrastructure and reflects SRM University-AP’s continued commitment to knowledge-sharing and outreach with the wider academic community. Such interactions help foster interest in emerging technologies among students from partner institutions and strengthen ties between the two institutions.
