The Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRM University-AP organised a One-Day Hands-On Robotics Workshop on 11 September 2026. Conceived to give students meaningful exposure to the subject area of Robotics beyond the classroom, the workshop drew active participation from students across the department.

The programme was structured around direct, practical engagement with robotic systems. Participants worked through demonstrations, assembly of robotic units, sensor and motor interfacing, and programming, before progressing to autonomous operation and troubleshooting, a sequence that took them from foundational concepts to the kind of applied problem-solving that robotics work demands in practice.

Guiding participants through the day were Dr Arun Krishnan K S and Dr Teja Krishna Mamidi, who served as resource persons for the workshop, lending their expertise to each stage of the hands-on sessions and helping students work through the technical challenges that arose as they built, coded and tested their systems.

The workshop met its intended objectives, strengthening participants’ practical understanding of robotics and encouraging them to experiment independently with robotic systems. The engagement shown by students over the course of the day underlined the value of hands-on learning in engineering education and reaffirmed its role in building the practical and innovation-oriented skills that the discipline increasingly demands.

In bringing robotics off the page and into students’ hands, the Department of Mechanical Engineering signalled its continuing commitment to practice-led learning, an approach it hopes to build upon through further workshops that let students engineer, test and troubleshoot their way towards genuine technical confidence.
