Abstract

Multi-phase buck converters have applications in server power supply, telecom power supply, and electric vehicle (EV) battery charging. The present work is focused on implementation of peak current mode control of multi-phase buck converter with phase shift operation. Peak current mode control algorithm has been programmed in micro-controller TMS320F28379D using its comparator subsystem (CMPSS) and ePWM modules. Here, three individual buck converter are operated from same DC input with 120° phase separation between their current references. Inductor current has been sensed using hall effect current sensors to achieve peak current mode control. Light electric vehicles which uses battery bank of nominal voltage 48V/72V may require to be charged at higher charging current rate for short duration. The charging current rate will depend on battery voltage, state of charge and user’s necessity. This work evaluates an IGBT based standard three phase bridge circuit which is used as multi-phase buck converter.
