Abstract
Nowadays, power conversion in single stage, enhanced active power filtering and resistance to electromagnetic interference (EMI) are turning into research hotspots of impedance source inverter (ZSI). This paper explains an unique model design of parallel connected, two separate self-supported capacitor dual ZSI (DZSI)-based distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) for 3-phase power utility system (PUS). The DZSI benefits over ZSI are realized with reduced component stress by sharing the currents, easier maintenance, modularity, plug and play facilities, higher reliability, improved power quality (PQ) and reduced total harmonic distortion (THD). This DZSI retains all the existing characteristics of ZSI with the several advantages of parallel connection. The icosø control algorithm method is proposed to generate proper switching pulses for the ZSI and DZSI-based DSTATCOM. The performance of the proposed DZSI configuration is validated with simulations carried out using MATLAB/Simulink software to reflect the standard value of the IEEE-2030.7–2017 and IEC- 61,000–1 grid code.
