SRM University-AP Inaugurated Its NCC Unit, Marking a New Chapter of Discipline and Leadership

SRM University-AP celebrated a significant milestone with the inauguration and enrollment ceremony of its National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit, held at the University Campus. The event marks the formal establishment of the NCC wing at SRM University-AP, opening new avenues for students to embrace discipline, leadership, and service to the nation.The event’s Chief Guest, Colonel A Udaya Kumar, Commanding Officer, 22 (A) Battalion, NCC Tenali, formally welcomed SRM University-AP into the NCC fold.

A formal MoU has been exchanged in the presence of Prof. Ch Satish Kumar, Vice-Chancellor (I/C), Major General Gurdeep Singh Narang, Director of Student Affairs, Dr R Premkumar, Registrar, Prof. CV Tomy, Dean of the School of Engineering and Sciences ( SEAS), Colonel A Udaya Kumar, Commanding Officer.

Addressing the cadets, he highlighted the organisation’s foundational motto “Unity and Discipline” and its purpose in fostering national integration and leadership among India’s youth. He added, NCC helps students develop teamwork, leadership, and life skills that transcend professions. Whether you become engineers, entrepreneurs, or public servants, the discipline and values you learn here will guide you throughout life. As you grow, the nation grows with you,” he remarked.

The ceremony witnessed the participation of university leadership, faculty, and students, alongside representatives from the “22 Andhra Battalion, NCC Tenali”, under whose aegis the unit has been established.

Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Ch Satish Kumar, Vice-Chancellor (I/C), SRM University-AP, expressed immense pride in this achievement. “This is a proud moment for SRM University-AP. Every academic institution aspires to host an NCC unit that nurtures discipline, patriotism, and leadership among its students. Establishing this company has been a long-standing aspiration, and through the dedication of our team and the support of the NCC Battalion at Tenali, this dream came true. Our students, now cadets, carry forward the spirit of commitment and nation-building that NCC embodies.”

He also extended his congratulations to the Directorate of Student Affairs and the newly enrolled cadets, recognising their enthusiasm and participation in the physical fitness and selection rounds held earlier in the day.

Sharing his reflections on the achievement, Major General Gurdeep Singh Narang, Director of Student Affairs, said, “It is both a proud and humbling moment for us to see the NCC wing become a reality at SRM University-AP after consistent effort. This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our leadership and the 22nd Andhra Battalion at Tenali. The NCC stands as a symbol of discipline and unity, qualities we seek to nurture in every student. The energy and determination our students displayed during the fitness rounds today reflect the true spirit of cadetship.”

With the launch of the NCC unit, SRM University-AP aims to expand further its engagement with defense and leadership programs, including potential collaborations with Naval and Air Force wings, providing students with holistic avenues for personal growth and national service.
