Our Bachelor in Arts (BA) programme will help students interpret and experience the world around them. Invaluable skills like communication, critical thinking and problem solving are the core of this programme. Our undergraduate programme aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and intellectual foundation – across humanities and social sciences – for a competitive advantage and enduring career success. In the first year of the BA programme, students are introduced to carefully crafted interdisciplinary courses on the liberal arts and social sciences. Students can choose their areas of specialisation in the following year.
SLASS students also have access to robust supports including Workshops, Seminars and learning centres for assistance with language and skill and competency development. Our faculty mentors offer full-time support to each student throughout his or her academic journey at SRMAP.

The Vision Of The Department
The Department of Economics is dedicated to producing individuals who are pragmatic thinkers with a multi-dimensional approach towards complex issues related to business, society, nation and the world. The department aspires to:
- Nourish and nurture young minds with fundamental, relevant and application-oriented education.
- Prepare students with applied knowledge of economics to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship skills.
- Foster interdisciplinary research and education to make students ready for the challenges of the century
- Develop in-depth knowledge of economic data sources and content and proficiency in quantitative methods. The department provides training on lab-oriented computations through different statistical software
- Provide an interactive space to share thoughts and ideas with eminent economists from India and abroad.
The BA Programme in Economics at SRM University-AP has several unique features. The Programme is flexible and designed to expose the students to fundamental economic theories as well as quantitative methods. The
Programme makes the student both conceptually and analytically strong in Economics. The programme includes fundamental theories in Microeconomics Macroeconomics, International Trade & Finance and Public Economics. In addition to mathematical methods, statistical methods and econometrics, R-studio & Python programming. The students will also become familiar with Indian Economic Problems, Databases and Policy Aspects. An additional merit of this programme is that it exposes the students to emerging areas in economics such as Financial Economics, Agricultural Economics, and Environmental Economics. The programme culminates with a research-based dissertation on a topic of relevance chosen by the student
Minor And Additional Courses
The BA in Economics Programme offers flexibility to pursue the course under the Choice Based Credit System. Students will have abundant options to choose minor courses within the same discipline or across disciplines
Optional 4th Year And Training For Higher Education
The three-year Bachelor programme is extendable to an optional fourth year specially curated to make the students aware of the cutting edge research being done in the discipline of economics worldwide. Special coaching will also be provided to the students willing to pursue higher education in world-class universities including the Ivy League institutions. The 4th year also gives students a provision to submit a research thesis, a prerequisite for admission applications to premier universities in the USA and Europe. The 4th year facilitates a smooth transition to higher studies without losing an additional year
Foundation For Competitive Exams
The curriculum is designed to make the student confident of appearing for national and international level competitive exams (e.g., GRE, UPSC, UGC-NET) and securing admissions in reputed universities in India and abroad for higher studies. However, additional training can be availed by the students seeking their places in Government jobs or higher education abroad
Industry And Academia Internship
Department will assist students in getting internship in the industry and academia. The internship will also be added to the credits.
Campus-placement And Training
SRM University-AP supports an extensive series of industry and research specific seminars. In addition, workshops are organised along with outstanding training programmes designed to professionalise students in their fields to land the best jobs in the corporate sector. The university also trains students who want to pursue higher studies abroad, irrespective of their specialisations.

The University has a world-class campus designed by Perkins+Will, the American architecture firm that specialises in educational institutions.
Faculty & Areas Of Interests
Ghanshyam Pandey is a PhD from the Punjabi University, Patiala. His research areas include agricultural economics, poverty and inequality, rural livelihood, development economics, climate change and agriculture.
Ananda Rao Suvvari is a PhD from the University of Hyderabad. His research areas include financial economics and international finance. Manzoor Hassan Malik is a PhD from Pondicherry University, Puducherry. His research areas include international trade, trade competitiveness.
