Abstract

A comparison of propagation characteristics of light have made between structure with all air holes and partly filled with ethanol and partly with air. Both Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCFs) structures are with holes of circular and elliptical geometry. First structure with air holes reports better propagation characteristics. However second structure shows negative dispersion with high birefringence. Birefringence observed for the first structure was comparatively higher of the order 10-2. Besides other characteristics like normalized frequency, effective mode area and confinement loss have also been studied. Both the structure shows a promising propagation characteristics for application in optical communication and sensor applications.
