Abstract
The integration of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with power-electronics-based distributed generation has intensified power quality (PQ) challenges in modern distribution networks. This paper proposes a reduced-switch ten-switch Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) as alternative to conventional 12-switch UPQC and Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) configurations in three phase-three wire (3P-3W) systems. The proposed topology achieves simultaneous voltage and current compensation without increasing the switch volt-ampere (VA) rating, thereby reducing semiconductor count and system cost. An isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter is integrated to support EV charging, enable grid-to-vehicle (G2V) operation, and regulate the DC-link voltage under varying grid conditions. MATLAB/Simulink results demonstrate significant improvement in PQ indices, stable DC -link voltage regulation, and reliable energy management, validating the effectiveness of proposed UPQC for sustainable EV charging applications.
