Abstract

A terahertz (THz) metamaterial resonator with a single-band response, derived from a split ring resonator (SRR) structure, is reported for sensitive skin cancer detection. The design utilizes an optimized triple concentric SRR structure to perform at 0.9768 THz at which dielectric contrast between healthy and cancerous tissue is strongest. The resonator features a deep return loss of -45 dB, establishing robust resonance and high Q-factor. This compact, subwavelength structure allows for increased field confinement within the resonator gaps, enhancing interaction with nearby biological tissues. The SRR design presented serves as a foundational element for future THz biosensing arrays or non-invasive imaging systems. Simulations validate the structure’s potential for non-invasive THz biomedical sensing.
