Abstract

The growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) demands compact, efficient, and isolated charging solutions. Conventional chargers often rely on bulky low-frequency transformers and lack flexibility in dynamic environments. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a unidirectional high-frequency wireless EV charging system with real-time monitoring and optimized control using Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO). The system includes a single-phase AC source, a passive diode rectifier, an LC filter, and a half-bridge inverter operating at 30 kHz. A CLCL resonant wireless power transfer (WPT) stage ensures efficient and isolated power delivery. On the receiver side, a diode-based rectifier charges a lithiumion battery while monitoring voltage, current, and state-of-charge (SOC). The optimization of the Proportional-Integral (PI) controller is achieved through HHO, which enhances the inverter’s performance, DC-link stability, and overall system response. The HHO-based approach dynamically adjusts the PI gains to improve the charging process efficiency while minimizing overshoot and settling time. The system is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink. Results confirm efficient power transfer, low DC ripple, accurate SOC estimation, and superior control performance due to the HHO-optimized PI controller. The proposed architecture provides a compact, reliable, and adaptable solution for wireless EV charging applications.
