Abstract

The negawatt trading approach has emerged with decentralized peer-to-peer energy markets, allowing end users to trade negative or surplus energy directly with each other. However, handling safe and effective transactions presents some difficulties. To address these challenges, the proposed “Blockchain Framework for Negative Energy Trading (BFNET)”network has been designed using Hyperledger Besu as a private blockchain, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and smart contracts are integrated to provide transparent automated transactions. By employing both off-chain and on-chain permissioning, flexible permission ascription improves control over network users and guarantees trading operations security. The efficiency of the framework is measured using performance indicators such as block import, world state, block network time, and block reward distribution. To understand computational and transaction processing speed, metrics latency, throughput and resources utilization have been examined. Under various circumstances, the result of QBFT’s latency was 5x, 4x, and 2x lower than that of Ethash, Clique, and IBFT, respectively. The improved throughput of the QBFT is 1.5x advanced than the IBFT and 3x higher than the Ethash and block import time takes a few to 10s of microseconds, and the block-full import time takes 1-2 seconds. The results performed by Hyperledger Besu greatly improved transaction security and efficiency in Negawatt Chain. By using blockchain, this study offers solutions for both trading and technical issues in the decentralized peer-to-peer negawatt energy market.
