Abstract
The regenerative braking is an effective technique to improve energy efficiency and extend driving range in electric vehicle applications by recovering kinetic energy during deceleration. This study presents a regenerative braking strategy for a brushless DC (BLDC) motor that enables smooth braking performance while efficiently transferring recovered energy back to the battery. The proposed method is based on a dual-duty ratio control strategy, in which appropriate duty ratios are applied to achieve a faster braking by regulating the armature current and DC-link current during regenerative operation. Compared to the conventional method, the proposed strategy provides an improved dynamic response and a smoother deceleration by reducing the maximum armature current compared to conventional method. The experimental analysis of the proposed work has been performed using MATLAB Simulink environment, which validates its effectiveness.
