Admissions under Sports Quota

SRM University-AP is inviting applications from exceptional athletes and champions for admission under the Sports Quota for the academic year 2026–27. The Sports Quota admission process provides an opportunity for talented and accomplished sportspersons to pursue higher education while continuing to develop and represent themselves at university, national, and international levels.

The Sports Quota trials have been officially announced at SRM University-AP, with admissions open across 37 different sports categories for both men and women.

Students admitted under the Sports Quota may avail themselves of up to a 100% Sports Scholarship, subject to the applicable scholarship category, eligibility, verification of sports achievements, and availability of seats. Scholarships will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Admission under the Sports Quota shall be through either the following

  1. Direct Admission without a sports trial, based on eligible and verified sports achievements; or
  2. Admission through Sports Trial, based on performance in the University-conducted sports trials.

For UG Courses

Applicants seeking admission to undergraduate programmes under the Sports Quota must satisfy the following academic eligibility criteria:

Courses – BA, B.Sc., BBA and B.Com

For PG Courses

Applicants seeking admission to postgraduate programmes under the Sports Quota must satisfy the prescribed academic eligibility requirements of the respective programme.

Applicants must also fulfil the programme-specific academic eligibility requirements prescribed by SRM University-AP for the respective postgraduate programme.

Admission under the Sports Quota shall be considered through the following two criteria:

Criteria 1: Direct Admission without Sports Trials

Candidates with outstanding and verifiable sports achievements may be considered for Direct Admission without appearing for a Sports Trial.

The applicant must submit valid supporting documents, such as:

  • Official sports certificate
  • Team selection letter
  • Official result sheet
  • Other relevant documents required for verification
National-Level Achievements

Candidates who have secured 1st, 2nd or 3rd position in recognised competitions may be considered for direct admission, including:

  • Medal Certificate – Mandatory
  • Official Result Sheet – Mandatory
  • Federation Verification – Wherever required

All sports achievements are subject to verification and approval by the Directorate of Sports.

Criteria 2: Admission through Sports Trials

Candidates who do not meet the criteria for Direct Admission may be considered for admission through the Sports Trial process.

Eligible candidates may participate in university-conducted trials based on their participation/achievement in recognised competitions, including:

  • Senior Nationals
  • Junior Nationals
  • Khelo India University Games (KIUG)
  • Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG)
  • SGFI
  • Federation Cup
  • All India Inter-University (AIU) competitions

Sports trials may be conducted for both individual and team sports.

Selection Committee

The Sports Trial Selection Committee shall comprise:

The panel of sport-specific experts shall be constituted in advance and approved by the competent authority.

Selection Process
The Selection Committee shall assess candidates based on the following:

● Sports performance
● Technical skills
● Tactical ability, wherever applicable
● Physical fitness
● Competition experience
● Previous sports achievements
● Potential for representing SRM University-AP

Final selection shall be subject to sports-performance assessment, document verification, academic eligibility, availability of seats, and approval by the competent authority.

E. Sports under Scholarship Quota

The Sports Scholarship shall be applicable to sports identified by SRM University-AP under the following categories:

  5. Judo
  6. Wrestling – Freestyle & Greco-Roman
  7. Weightlifting
  8. Shooting
  9. Malkhamb
  10. Swimming
  11. Yoga
  12. Canoeing & Kayaking
  13. Cycling
  14. Table Tennis
  15. Badminton
  16. Chess

These sports are classified as high-priority games based on their medal contribution in the Khelo India University Games and National University Games.

B. Priority Games
  1. Kabaddi
  2. Football
  3. Volleyball
  4. Basketball
  5. Karate
  6. Rugby 7s
  7. Hockey
  8. Kho-Kho
  9. Wushu
  10. Rowing

These sports are classified as Priority Games, particularly recognising team sports represented in the Khelo India University Games and National University Games.

C. Other Games
  1. Softball – Women
  2. Baseball – Men
  3. Cricket
  4. Handball
  5. Ball Badminton
  6. American Football
  7. Esports
  8. Mini Golf
  9. Pickleball
  10. Tug of War
  11. Pencak Silat

These sports include individual and team disciplines represented in National University Games but not included in the Khelo India University Games.

The Sports Scholarship shall be awarded based on the applicant’s verified sports achievements and the applicable scholarship grade.

F. Sports Scholarship Grades

Grade A+

Applicable to outstanding athletes with achievements such as the following:

  • International medal and participation
  • Senior National achievements
  • AIU achievements
  • KIUG achievements
  • KIYG achievements
  • SGFI medalist
Grade A-1

Applicable to athletes with achievements such as:

  • Zonal Inter-University medal
  • Senior National participation
  • National participation
  • AIU participation
  • KIUG participation
  • KIYG participation
  • SGFI participation
Grade A-2

Applicable to athletes with achievements such as:

  • International medal/participation in Other Games
  • Senior National
  • National
  • Junior National
  • Sub-Junior
  • AIU
  • KIUG
  • KIYG
  • SGFI medalist
  • Participation in tournaments organized by BCCI
Grade B

Applicable to athletes with achievements such as:

  • Zonal Inter-University participation
  • Senior State participation
  • Junior State participation
  • State School Games medalist

The applicable scholarship percentage and associated benefits shall be determined according to the approved Sports Scholarship Grade, sports category, verified achievement, and University norms.
