Abstract

The rapid expansion of 5G networks (5GNs) has significantly increased resource demands, making energy efficiency a vital concern for sustainable operations. Key factors contributing to energy consumption include paging monitoring and Discontinuous Reception (DRX) optimization, which necessitate innovative solutions to meet the performance and energy-saving requirements of contemporary 5G systems. This study presents a blockchain-enhanced framework designed to address these challenges effectively. By leveraging blockchain technology’s (BCT) decentralized and secure architecture, the framework utilizes smart contracts for real-time, automated monitoring and optimization. This approach minimizes the need for manual intervention, enhances transparency, and fosters trust in network operations. Transcending the limitations of traditional centralized methods enables dynamic and efficient resource management while preserving network responsiveness. Mathematical models illustrate how blockchain-driven DRX optimization and paging adjustments can reduce energy consumption without sacrificing latency or throughput. The robust capabilities of BCT enhance system reliability by ensuring data integrity and reducing operational overhead. This study underscores the transformative potential of blockchain in advancing energy-efficient, scalable, and secure 5G networks, providing a sustainable solution to the energy challenges within modern telecommunications.
