Abstract

Blockchain technology appears to be the solution that many companies seek in a safe, decentralized, and transparent way. Originally hailed as the building block of the Bitcoin blockchain, its effect is no longer just limited to the cryptocurrency industry but has branched out to the healthcare, governmental, supply chain, and banking sectors. It is a detailed exploration of the blockchain technology – its architecture, basic concepts, and consensus techniques. The decentralized, immutable, transparent, and secure validation features of this system provide a trusted infrastructure for safe online transactions. An analysis of actual deployments of a variety of blockchain frameworks: public, private, consortium, and hybrid. This chapter looks at some consensus approaches like Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT), Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS), Proof of Work (PoW), Proof of Stake (PoS), and some other more current alternatives along with PoW, PoS, and PBFT. The chapter looks into the pros and cons of blockchain concerning scalability, energy consumption, and regulation, followed by an analysis of recent advances to overcome these issues. This expert study should aid in future research and industry implementation.
