Abstract

HSI captures and analyzes information across electromagnetic wavelengths. It allows for the collection and processing of data across a wide range of the electromagnetic spectrum to collect detailed spectral and spatial information about an object or a scene. There is wide application in varied industries and agriculture, forestry, remote sensing, food industry, medical diagnosis, and forensics. In this book chapter, we further elaborate on the background of HSI in forensic sciences, which can help to overcome challenges associated with document examination, blood stain age estimation, and identification and classification of different substances or objects at crime scenes. The present work was carried out to delve into the recent progress and discuss the utility of HSI in forensic science and also to emphasize its importance in terms of overcoming limitation issues in the present conventional forensic methods.
