Abstract
The emergence of Industry 4.0 resulted in a disruptive era marked by the incorporation of cutting-edge technology, such as edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI), into industrial processes. The integration of AI and Federated Learning (FL) methodologies and the creation of intelligent solutions that protect privacy within the framework of Industry 4.0 are two key ideas that will be explored in this chapter. The chapter highlights that one major obstacle to edge computing’s widespread adoption in Industry 4.0 is privacy concerns. It emphasizes the necessity of finding solutions that balance the demands for real-time processing with the strictest privacy regulation. The main goal is to investigate how intelligent edge device solutions can be implemented while maintaining privacy protection through the use of FL. The goal of this chapter is to shed light on how to use the synergies between AI and FL to address privacy concerns related to Industry 4.0. The chapter ends with a call for Industry 4.0, which will see the standardization of edge computing, federated learning techniques, and artificial intelligence. By putting in place privacy-preserving safeguards, organizations are encouraged to adopt new technologies while maintaining strict data privacy and security standards. In the rapidly changing context of Industry 4.0, this symbiotic connection is expected to transform industrial landscapes, guiding them towards unmatched efficiency and creativity.
