Two Expert Talks at Pi-Day Celebrations

The Department of Mathematics under the School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS), successfully organised Pi-Day celebration on March 14, 2026. The event aimed to promote interest in mathematics through engaging and interactive activities exposure of our B.Tech, M. Tech and B.Sc., M.Sc. students. The program commenced with a brief introduction to the significance of Pi Day, by Dean of the Paari School of Business (PSB) Prof. Ashay Kadam. Following this, the HoD (i/c), Dr Tapan Kumar Hota delivered an insightful talk, highlighting the importance of π in various fields such as geometry, physics, and engineering. A short talk was delivered explaining the historical development of π and contributions made by mathematicians over centuries.

As part of the celebration, two invited talks were delivered by faculty members of the Department of Mathematics. Dr Sazzad Ali Biswas delivered a lecture on the topic “Beyond 3.14: Why π Matters in Mathematics and Life” explaining the importance of π not only in geometry but also in various real-life applications and advanced mathematical concepts. The second talk by Dr Ranjana Mehta on the topic “The Theorem Tales” provided insights into interesting mathematical theorems and their significance, making the session informative for the audience.

The active participation of students, faculty members, Ph.D. scholars, and participants from other departments made the programme lively, engaging, and successful. The organisers expressed their sincere gratitude to all the participants, speakers, faculty members, and contributors for their support and cooperation in making the event a grand success.
