Advancing the nation’s emerging technologies ecosystem, SRM University-AP, Amaravati hosted an AR/VR Innovation Workshop on April 07, 2026, along with the Young Innovators Stem Lab (YISL), in collaboration with the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and STEAM Varsity, with support from the GeeksforGeeks (GfG) Campus Body, SRM AP.
The workshop introduced immersive technologies through a practical, project-based approach and learning by doing method, enabling participants to actively engage with cutting-edge tools and technologies. 200+ students registered for the workshop from schools, colleges and universities from across Amaravati and the surrounding regions.
Mr Dharam Raj Panwar (Co-founder STEAM Varsity), Mr Paras Deshmukh (Makerspace Officer STEAM Varsity), Mr Mohammad Mustafa Ghazi (R&D Head STEAM Varsity), Mr Devanand (STEAM Facilitator), and Mr Shashank Chandel (STEAM Facilitator) mentored students on building AR/VR apps, exploring AR/VR and WebXR technologies and design thinking methodologies.
Dr Ashok Kumar Pradhan, Associate Professor and Faculty Convenor, welcomed the participants and noted that the workshop will enhance skill proficiency, the startup studio model and a framework of design thinking principles to develop a professional ecosystem among the students. Student Coordinator Mr Mahesh Babu Chittem encouraged students to collaborate, innovate, and push boundaries using AR/VR tools to solve real-world challenges.
Prof. Jayaseelan Murugaiyan, Associate Dean – School of Engineering and Sciences, encouraged participants to develop a strong aim, focused objective and drive for innovation that will elevate India to the forefront of advanced technology.
In his welcome address, Prof. Ch Satish Kumar, Vice Chancellor, SRM AP stated that workshops like these provide students with hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. He appreciated the young dynamic team from STEAM Varsity and encouraged them to visit the one-of-a-kind Quantum Computer being assembled on campus.
Registrar (i/c) Dr Vinayak Kalluri remarked that immersive technologies like AR/VR are redefining education by bridging the gap between theory and real-world experience.
Mr Dharam Raj Panwar gave an overview of STEAM Varsity stating that, “At STEAM Varsity, we focus on Learning through tinkering, peer mentoring and research-driven learning that will foster a culture of innovation in India.”
Mr Paras Deshmukh also presented the aims and objectives of YISL, the mobile, technology-enabled initiative designed to deliver immersive, hands-on learning experiences on emerging technologies and tools for Indian students.
The workshop is a testament to SRM University-AP’s remarkable strides to empower students with the future technologies of tomorrow. The AR/VR Innovation workshop bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application by providing a complete innovation cycle—from ideation to implementation and presentation.
