SRM University-AP, Amaravati, marked a significant milestone with the grand inauguration of the Singularity Student Advanced Lab and the launch of MISSION: Schrödinger’s Cat, hailed as India’s largest student-led hackathon. The dual celebration reflects the university’s continued commitment to fostering innovation, research excellence, and student-driven technological advancement.
The Singularity Student Advanced Lab, a pioneering initiative led by student innovators, is envisioned as a dynamic hub for cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary collaboration. Spearheaded by Jayanth Ramakrishnan, Founder and Chief Executive of the Singularity Student Lab, the facility aims to empower students to explore emerging domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Robotics, Cybersecurity, and Augmented and Virtual Reality. The lab stands as a testament to the university’s progressive academic ecosystem, where students are encouraged to ideate, experiment, and translate knowledge into impactful solutions.
Coinciding with the inauguration, the university also flagged off MISSION: Schrödinger’s Cat, a high-intensity 36-hour hackathon that brings together some of the brightest young minds from across the country. With an impressive prize pool exceeding ₹25 lakhs and the participation of over 30 distinguished judges from academia and industry, the event sets a new national benchmark for student-led innovation platforms. The hackathon challenges participants to address real-world problems through technological ingenuity, fostering creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving under pressure.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr Rambabu Vasupilli, Founder & CEO of NCPL, who attended as the Chief Guest. The event also witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Prof. Ch Satish Kumar, Vice Chancellor; Prof. Chakkalakal Tomy, Dean – School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS); Dr Murali Krishna Enduri, Founding Faculty Advisor of the Lab and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Dr Priyanka Singh, Associate Head of the Department and Faculty Advisor; and Mr Pankaj Belwariar, Director – Communications. Their presence underscored the institutional support and encouragement for student-led initiatives of this scale.
A special mention goes to student coordinators Jayanth Ramakrishnan and Parvendan Rangasamy, undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, whose leadership and dedication were instrumental in conceptualising and executing this ambitious initiative. Their efforts exemplify the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship that SRM University-AP strives to nurture among its students.
Despite being a relatively new initiative, the Singularity Student Advanced Lab has already demonstrated remarkable achievements, including three international conference presentations, four hackathon victories, and two patent filings. These accomplishments highlight the lab’s growing impact and its potential to emerge as a leading student-driven research and innovation centre in the country.
The day’s celebrations concluded with a vibrant cultural programme, adding a creative and festive dimension to the occasion. The performances showcased the diverse talents of the student community, making the event a holistic celebration of both technological innovation and artistic expression.
With the launch of the Singularity Student Advanced Lab and MISSION: Schrödinger’s Cat, SRM University-AP continues to reinforce its position as a hub of forward-thinking education, empowering students to lead, innovate, and shape the future.
