SRM AP Concludes International Conference on Emerging Trends in Chemical Biology (ETCB 2025)

The Department of Chemistry, School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS), successfully hosted the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Chemical Biology (ETCB 2025), a two-day global academic event bringing together leading scientists, researchers, and young scholars from India and around the world on December 08-09, 2025.

The conference highlighted cutting-edge developments at the interface of chemistry and biology through keynote lectures, invited talks, poster sessions, flash presentations, and collaborative networking opportunities. Eminent speakers, including Prof. Raghavan Varadarajan (IISc Bengaluru), Prof. Harinath Chakrapani (IISER Pune), Prof. Dev P Arya (Clemson University, USA), Dr Venkata Srikanth Garikipati (Temple University, USA), Dr Syed Kaleem Ahmed (University of Southern California), among others delivered insightful lectures and sessions.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Ch Satish Kumar underscored the deep-rooted connection between chemistry and biology and highlighted the global need for innovations in areas such as artificial blood components and molecular-level therapeutic interventions. He encouraged the department to pursue strong interdisciplinary research proposals, noting that future institutional funding will prioritise such collaborative ventures.

Prof. C V Tomy, Dean of the School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS), emphasised the value of interdisciplinary engagement at SRM University-AP, noting that conferences like ETCB provide a crucial platform for scientists and students to gain exposure, interact with experts, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Prof. Ranjit Thapa, Dean of Research, spoke on the growing importance and challenges of interdisciplinary fields, such as chemical biology, particularly in securing funding and defining research frameworks. He reaffirmed SRM AP’s commitment to building a robust research ecosystem from the undergraduate, PhD, to the faculty level.

Dr Sabyasachi Chakrabortty, Associate Professor & Head of the Department of Chemistry, delivered the welcome address, while Dr Satheesh Ellipilli, Assistant Professor and Convenor of ETCB 2025, provided an overview of the scientific themes of the conference. Dr Rajapandiyan Panneerselvam, Assistant Professor and Co-Convenor of ETCB 2025, presented the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the leadership, speakers, organisers, faculty, volunteers, and sponsors.

Along with the release of the Conference Abstract Book, the winners of the poster presentations were awarded at the valedictory ceremony. The event fostered interdisciplinary collaborations, sparked innovative research ideas, and contributed significantly to the global discourse in chemical biology.
