The Department of Civil Engineering organised a guest expert lecture on “Interdisciplinary Applications of Reliability and Risk Analysis” on February 05, 2026, by Prof. Chandra S. Putcha, Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at California State University, Fullerton, USA.

Prof. Chandra explained the fundamental concepts of reliability and risk assessment and highlighted their importance in modern civil and environmental engineering practice. Through practical examples and interdisciplinary case studies, he demonstrated how probabilistic approaches can improve decision-making, safety, and sustainability in engineering systems.

The lecture familiarised students and faculty with the principles of structural reliability and risk analysis and their interdisciplinary applications in modern civil engineering practice, and to provide exposure to recent research developments while encouraging academic interaction and collaborative learning with an internationally reputed expert in the field.

The session also provided valuable exposure to students, research scholars, and faculty members, encouraging them to incorporate reliability-based thinking into research and professional practice. The interactive discussion that followed further enriched the learning experience and opened avenues for future academic collaboration.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr KVNS Raviteja, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, followed by an introductory speech by Dr Arijit Saha. The event was convened by Dr Arijit Saha, Assistant Professor and co-convened by Dr Ainal Hoque Gazi, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering.
