Civil Engineering students of The School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS), SRM University–AP, accompanied by Dr Uma Maheswar, Prof. Sitaram, Mr Sumanth (PhD scholar), and Mr Ratnakar (lab staff), visited Vijayawada International Airport on September 16, 2025, as part of their curriculum for the course CVE305: Railway, Airway, and Waterway Engineering.
During the visit, students explored key infrastructural components, including the upcoming new terminal building, Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, runway, taxiway, and apron. The delegation was guided by Mr Kadali Suresh, Deputy General Manager, Airports Authority of India (AAI), and his team, who provided valuable insights into the ongoing construction works, operational procedures, and management of airport facilities.
The students actively interacted with airport professionals, raising a variety of technical, general, and career-oriented questions. The visit concluded with an interactive session with Airport Director Mr M L K Reddy, who shared his perspectives on career opportunities in the airport sector for civil engineers and discussed industry expectations and workplace challenges.
This experiential learning activity provided students with firsthand exposure to airport infrastructure and operations, deepening their understanding of runway design and maintenance, drainage systems, airport safety standards, and other vital aspects of airport engineering.
