ESLA Students Witness Legislative Governance: A Visit to the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly

Students from the Easwari School of Liberal Arts (ESLA) at SRM University-AP recently took on an experiential learning visit to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. During this visit, the students were able to bridge the gap between classroom theory and legislative practice by witnessing the “living constitution” in action.

Throughout the session, students saw the intricate proceedings of the House, where the Honourable Speaker presided over critical discussions regarding the state budget and developmental priorities. The experience highlighted the rigorous nature of legislative decorum, the precise management of parliamentary time, and the formal protocols that govern interaction between the ministry and opposition benches. Watching these interactions provided a clear demonstration of executive accountability and the procedural checks and balances that are fundamental to the Indian federal structure.

This exposure to the state’s highest law-making body reinforces SRM-AP’s commitment to immersive education and this approach reflects the institute’s larger teaching philosophy, where theory is consistently linked to real-world political processes and mentorship ensures intellectual depth.

For prospective students, this is a defining strength of the Political Science program. Learning extends beyond textbooks into democratic institutions themselves, enabling graduates to leave not only with conceptual clarity but with the practical insight and confidence required for careers in civil services, public policy, law, research, and governance.
