The Teaching Learning Center (TLC) successfully conducted a vibrant two-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 20th & 21st November, 2025. The program received an enthusiastic response, with 27 faculty members actively participating in a series of dynamic and highly engaging sessions.
This workshop focused on research-based characteristics of effective pedagogies in higher education, grounded in the internationally recognised framework of Productive Pedagogies developed in Queensland, Australia. The four core principles highlighted during the program included:
- Intellectual Quality
- Connectedness
- Supportive Classroom Environment
- Recognition of Difference
In addition, the workshop introduced Action Research as a meaningful and practical approach for enhancing teaching and learning practices across diverse disciplines. Participants had the opportunity to:
- Reflect on personal teaching philosophies and instructional goals
- Examine global research on effective pedagogy
- Initiate planning for classroom-based action research projects contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)
- Conceptualise collaborative pedagogical research initiatives
The FDP created a collaborative academic environment, empowering faculty to adopt evidence-based pedagogical strategies and to further contribute to innovative teaching excellence at the University.
This two-day workshop examines research-based characteristics of effective pedagogies in higher education through the four principles of Productive Pedagogies developed in Queensland, Australia: Intellectual Quality, Connectedness, Supportive Classroom Environment, and Recognition of Difference. It also explores Action Research as an approach for implementing these principles in university teaching across STEM and Liberal Arts contexts, with the objective of improving teaching and learning and advancing the scholarship of teaching.
