Dr Srabani Basu, Associate Professor in the Department of Literature and Languages at Easwari School of Liberal Arts, has collaborated with Ms Paleti Nikitha, a 2024 B.Tech Computer Science graduate from SRM University-AP, to develop a System And Method For Generating A Psychometric Representational Style Profile. Their invention, a web-based software system assesses individuals’ preferred internal representational styles based on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). The excerpt of their patent with Practical Implementation and Social Implications is briefly discussed below.
Abstract:
This invention presents a web-based software system designed to assess an individual’s preferred internal representational style based on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). The system uses a structured 50-question digital questionnaire to classify users into six representational modalities: Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory, Gustatory, and Auditory Digital (VAKOG+AD). Unlike traditional paper-based or practitioner-led assessments, this platform provides automated scoring, real-time feedback, and dynamic visualisation through a scalable three-tier architecture using Vue.js, Django, RESTful APIs, and Chart.js. The tool enables personalised insights for education, coaching, therapy, and training environments, offering an accessible and extensible approach for cognitive preference profiling.
Everyone learns and understands the world differently.
Some people learn best by:
- Seeing (Visual)
- Hearing (Auditory)
- Doing/Touching (Kinesthetic)
- Smell-based memory (Olfactory)
- Taste-related association (Gustatory)
- Talking logically inside their mind (Auditory Digital)
Our invention is basically an online learning-style and communication-style test.
Instead of using paper forms and manual scoring, your system:
Asks questions online
Automatically calculates results
Shows graphs instantly
Stores data for future tracking
So it helps people understand how their brain prefers to process information.
Practical Implementation:
This research can be implemented in real-world systems such as:
1. Education & Schools
Teachers can identify student learning styles
Lessons can be customized (visual aids, audio teaching, hands-on learning)
2. Coaching & Therapy
Therapists can communicate better with clients
Helps in counseling, confidence-building, emotional training
3. Corporate Training & HR
Employee training becomes more effective
Better communication inside teams
4. Career Guidance Platforms
Helps students understand strengths and learning preferences
Social Implications:
This work has a strong positive social impact:
Democratising Psychological Tools
People who cannot access trained NLP practitioners can still benefit digitally.
Personalised Learning for All
Students struggling in traditional systems may finally learn in a way that suits them.
Better Communication & Mental Wellbeing
Understanding how someone processes information reduces misunderstanding and improves empathy.
Workforce Skill Development
Organisations can build training programs based on cognitive preference rather than a one-size-fits-all.
Future Plans:
Your invention has a huge scope. Here are strong future directions:
1. Add AI-Based Adaptive Questioning
Instead of fixed 50 questions, AI can dynamically choose the next question based on responses.
2. Multilingual Expansion
Currently, English-only is a limitation. the inventors propose to add Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and other global languages.
3. Mobile App Version
Use the REST API to build: Android app and iOS version.
4. Improve Psychometric Validity
Collaborate with psychologists to add:
-
- Weighted scoring
- Reliability testing
- Standardization datasets
