AP-PCB Chairman Delivers a Seminar on Combating Environmental Pollution & Protection

SRM University-AP hosted Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (AP-PCB), Dr P Krishnaiah, IAS (Retd.), for a seminar on environmental pollution and protection highlighted pressing environmental challenges, regulatory frameworks, and sustainable practices toward environmental conservation on February 22, 2026. Mr M Rajasekhar, Chief Environmental Engineer, Vijayawada and Ms Nazeena Begum, Environmental Engineer, Guntur, also attended the event.

Dr P Krishnaiah emphasised that environmental pollution poses a serious global threat and that safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility of all humankind. He stated, “Technology is the key driver for change – from thermal energy to solar and green hydrogen – bringing alternative energy sources. It is only with experimentation and innovation that we as a nation can contribute to resource conservation and environmental protection.”

Highlighting the effectiveness of proper waste management, Dr Krishnaiah commented on the ‘Waste to Wealth’ policy, noting the need to transition from a linear economy to a more sustainable circular economy.

Mr M Rajasekhar outlined the various Government schemes, incentives and policies aimed at encouraging proper waste management among the public. He also encouraged students to pursue career pathways in environmental science and environmental engineering and work towards sustainability, pollution control, climate research, and green technologies.

Vice Chancellor of SRM University-AP Prof. Ch Satish Kumar appreciated the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering for organising the seminar, pressing on the dire need to monitor weather parameters, specifically in the emerging city of Amaravati. He remarked that the impact of long-term environmental pollution can be battled only through community participation – a collaborative effort by the government, industries and the public.

Dr Shoji D Thottathil, Head of Environmental Science and Engineering, delivered the welcome address and Dr Rangabhashiyam Selvasembian, Associate Professor, shared a brief overview of the significance of the seminar.

The seminar reaffirms SRM University-AP’s aim to educate and motivate the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders in developing innovative solutions that significantly reduce the global carbon footprint for a greener and more resilient future.
