ACM Student Chapter Inauguration & LinkUp Coding Bootcamp

The ACM Student Chapter at SRM University–AP, officially chartered under ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), was formally inaugurated on January 31, 2026, marking the beginning of a sustained academic and technical journey focused on strengthening computing foundations, research orientation, and student-led learning initiatives at the university.

The inauguration ceremony signified the launch of ACM activities at SRM University–AP and set the direction for continuous engagement in computing education and professional development. The chapter was formally inaugurated by Prof. CV Tomy, Dean-School of Engineering and Sciences, who emphasised the importance of strong fundamentals, academic communities, and global professional associations in shaping future-ready graduates. The ceremony also featured Dr Murali Krishna Enduri, HOD-Computer Science and Engineering, who inaugurated the chapter’s first academic initiative and highlighted the relevance of data structures and programming fundamentals in both academia and industry.

Following the inauguration, the ACM Student Chapter conducted its inaugural academic program, “LinkUp Coding: A Hands-On Linked List Bootcamp,” a full-day bootcamp dedicated to building clarity and confidence in C programming and linked lists. The bootcamp witnessed enthusiastic participation from 250+ students, with a majority comprising first-year students, followed by a significant number of third-year students from across disciplines.

The bootcamp sessions were delivered by faculty resource persons from SRM University–AP, including Naresh Babu Kakarla, Nilin Prabhaker, and Dr K Sowjanya, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The academic structure of the bootcamp was designed to progressively guide students from core C programming concepts to the practical implementation of linked lists, combining conceptual explanation with hands-on coding and guided problem-solving.

The event was conducted under the academic leadership of Dr Priyanka Singh, Associate Professor and Associate Head of the Department, Computer Science and Engineering, who served as the Faculty Convener, with Mr Sreekanth Balijabudda, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, serving as the Faculty Co-Convener. Their guidance ensured academic rigor, structured delivery, and alignment with the chapter’s long-term learning objectives.

To sustain engagement and encourage active participation, the bootcamp also incorporated a series of interactive activities, including blindfold challenges, ball games, and symbol-based guessing games inspired by C language concepts. These activities fostered collaboration, logical thinking, and peer interaction. Winners of the activities were recognized and awarded pen drives, adding an element of motivation and appreciation. The event also featured vibrant student participation and interactive sessions, contributing to an energetic and inclusive learning environment throughout the day.

The event was coordinated by the ACM Student Chapter student leadership team, with Numair, Vice Chair of the ACM Student Chapter, serving as the Student Coordinator, along with Nakshatra and Malini as Student Coordinators. Their coordinated efforts ensured smooth execution across venues, effective communication, and a seamless experience for participants.

The successful inauguration of the ACM Student Chapter and the conduct of its inaugural bootcamp mark the beginning of a sustained series of academic and technical initiatives at SRM University–AP. This milestone reflects the chapter’s commitment to building strong computing foundations, fostering continuous learning, and creating an ecosystem that will grow and evolve in the years to come.
