Introduction
The National Service Scheme is a value-based youth programme aimed at developing social responsibility of the youth by involving them in community development. In India, the idea of involving students in the task of national service dates back to the times of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation.

Objectives of NSS
- To understand the community in which they work
- To understand themselves with their community
- To practice national integration and social harmony
- To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
Outcomes
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving process
- Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities

Scope of NSS activities
There will be multiple activities proposed for NSS such as:
- Community participation through village/ slum area adoption program
- Awareness drives through youth rallies, street plays and exhibitions highlighting social issues, culture, folklores and traditional arts.
- NSS special camps for 7 days. Volunteers are expected stay together and live as a community.
- Collecting materials and distributing to needy communities and families
- Tree plantations, cleaning camps and blood donation campus.
SOP for conducting NSS activities
Activities will be discussed by committee and conveners, further a plan of action will be created for the semester.
Program of action: There will be regular activities and specialized activities.
Regular activities include:
- Summer camps
- Blood donation camps
- Cleaning campaigns
- Engagements of important observance days
In specialized activities students are expected to come up with innovative ideas to provide solutions to the community problems. They will go to selected villages and interact with people thereby contribute to the community development.
Membership Hierarchy
Membership for NSS will be given first come first basis. The present total capacity is 200 NSS volunteers. In special cases such as prior engagement with NSS or any social responsibility activity, students can receive NSS membership. From the registered volunteers 2 convenors and a co-convener will be selected.
