Message From HOD

Welcome to the Department of Defence Systems Engineering.

It gives me immense pleasure to introduce the department that prepares students to become engineers and innovators in one of the world’s most strategically important and technologically advanced sectors, purely driven by disruptive technologies.

The global defence and aerospace industry is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by increasing investment in air defence systems, teaming systems, artificial intelligence, autonomous drones, advanced radar, cybersecurity, electronic warfare, satellite systems, hypersonic systems, and quantum technologies. Global military expenditure has reached trillions of US dollars, creating a strong demand for engineers with expertise in defence systems engineering. India has emerged as one of the world’s leading military powers and strategic technology nations. According to widely cited global military capability assessments, India is ranked among the top four military powers in the world, reflecting the strength of its armed forces, advanced missile capabilities, growing regional naval presence in the Indian Ocean, and expanding indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem, demonstrating increasing global confidence in Indian technologies and creating exceptional opportunities for engineers, researchers, and entrepreneurs.

Additionally, India’s growing strategic partnerships with countries such as the United States, France, Israel, Russia, Japan, and Australia are accelerating technology transfer, joint development, co-production, and research collaboration in aerospace, missile systems, naval platforms, secure communications, and advanced sensing. These partnerships are opening global opportunities for Indian engineers to work on world-class defence technologies and multinational projects. Moreover, situations like Operation Sindoor have demonstrated the need for indigenous defence technology to achieve self-sufficiency in the defence sector.

Our B.Tech program in Defence Systems Engineering has been carefully designed to prepare students to contribute to this rapidly expanding sector. The curriculum integrates electronics, communication engineering, radar and RF systems, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, autonomous systems, aerospace technologies, advanced sensing, robotics, and quantum technologies, as an integrated approach under the Defence Systems Engineering at SRM University AP. Students gain strong theoretical foundations, software understanding, and practical skills through laboratory-intensive courses, simulation-based learning, internships, and multidisciplinary projects.

Our faculty members are committed to mentoring students to become technically proficient, ethically responsible, and globally competitive engineers. Supported by advanced laboratories and strong industry collaborations, we provide an environment where students can transform ideas into impactful technologies. SRM University AP provides scholarships and supports students through the SEED Grant to develop prototypes, publish research, and file patents. Further innovative ideas are mentored by the Incubation Centre at SRM University AP to make a successful entrepreneur journey.

Graduates of this program will have outstanding opportunities in defence research laboratories, aerospace industry, radar and RF companies, cybersecurity organizations, drone startups, semiconductor industry, global defence corporations, and leading research institutions.

I invite ambitious students with a passion for innovation and national service to join this exciting journey. By choosing Defence Systems Engineering, you will enter one of the fastest-growing technology sectors in the world and, above all, become part of a new generation of engineers who will design the systems that protect nations, strengthen self-reliance, and shape the future of global security.
