HOD’s Message
Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences at SRM University-AP, Amaravati. Our mission is to cultivate a research-driven academic environment that fosters curiosity, innovation, and excellence in the life sciences. We offer BSc (Hons) in Integrative Biology (with an optional fourth year), MSc in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and a full-time PhD programme, along with Institutional Postdoctoral Fellowships. In the near future, we will also introduce MTech in Bioinformatics and MSc in Sustainable Bionanotechnology.
Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to integrate strong theoretical foundations with extensive practical training across contemporary areas such as Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, and Biotechnology. This holistic approach prepares students for higher studies and diverse careers in research, academia, and the bio-industry. Interdisciplinary learning is further enhanced through foundation courses and electives offered across the School of Liberal Arts and Basic Sciences.
Our faculty comprises highly accomplished researchers trained at premier institutions in India and abroad, with significant international postdoctoral experience. The department proudly hosts prestigious fellows, including Ramalingaswami, Ramanujan, Wellcome Trust, and INSPIRE awardees. Students benefit from early exposure to cutting-edge research in areas such as cancer theragnostics, neurobiology, environmental microbiology, CRISPR biology, biomaterials, and sustainable bionanotechnology. Our strong publication record, patents, and emerging startups reflect our commitment to impactful research.
Supported by substantial funding from agencies such as DBT, DST, ANRF, and ICMR, we have established state-of-the-art research facilities. Notably, our faculty secured approximately ₹8 crores in research funding during the academic year 2025–26.
