Overview

The Department of Mathematics at SRM University-AP aims to stand at the forefront of modern mathematical science, blending tradition with innovation to prepare the next generation of thinkers, problem-solvers, and pioneers. Offering a full spectrum of academic programs — Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) along with Postdoctoral Fellowships — the department is a dynamic hub of excellence in education, cutting-edge research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Since its inception, the Mathematics Department at SRM-AP is actively engaged in pure, applied and industrial mathematics as well as data science and interdisciplinary fields of research. At the same time, our department is committed to impart high-quality education via innovative active learning techniques in both the emerging and classical areas of mathematical sciences. The department offers a four-year Undergraduate Programme (BSc with Hons. in Mathematics) where the 4th-year is spent on research or industry experience, in accordance with NEP (National Education Policy of Govt. of India). Furthermore, we offer dedicated MSc in Mathematics and PhD programmes.
Any candidate pursuing these programmes have the option to take up Minors in other disciplines within the School of Liberal Arts, School of Management, Engineering and other Basic Sciences, along with the mandatory Foundational mathematics courses, thereby making this a well-rounded offering of Mathematics equally rich in knowledge of other branches.
The research areas of the department covers a broad spectrum of mathematical disciplines starting from the general areas of Mathematical Analysis, Algebra, Statistics and Applied Mathematics.
The employment opportunities are also aplenty as this is one of those educational degrees that is imperative in sectors such as Academia, Research and Developments, Finance and Banking, Actuarial Science, Management, and works in close concurrence with all the other major science and engineering disciplines. Hence there are innumerable opportunities for the graduates trained in critical thinking and rationality to make impactful contributions to the society.
